Snow Day

February gave us a cold, wintry greeting that chilled the bones but created smiles on our students’ faces. This was the fourth time this year that we’ve seen snow in Nagasaki.

 

2月は私たちに寒さ、骨身にしみた冬の挨拶をもたらしましたが、プレイデイの生徒さんの顔には笑顔をつくりました。これで長崎では今年４回目の雪となりました。

 

The snow brings cold weather, it may make it harder for us to get around and it may even cancel school. However, snow becomes a fun and useful English lesson at Playday.

 

雪は寒波をもたらし、あちこち動き回りにくくし、学校を休校にしたりするかもしれませんが、プレイデイでは、雪は楽しくそして役に立つ英語のレッスンになります。

 

Throughout January, we talked about snowflakes, snowmen and mittens and sang songs about them in our mom and tots classes.

 

１月の間ずっと、mom&totsクラスでは、雪の結晶、雪だるまやミトンになどについて話したり、歌をうたいました。

 

For our elementary school students, we taught the difference between cold and hot. We also used a game that uses hot and cold to find a hidden object.

 

小学生の生徒さんには、coldとhotの違いを教えました。また、隠された物を探すためにhotとcoldを使ったゲームをしました。

 

In the game, “hot” means you are close to finding the hidden object and “cold” means you are far away from finding the hidden object.

 

そのゲームのなかでは、“hot”は隠された物をもう少しで見つけるという意味で“cold”は隠された物から遠いという意味です。

 

This is a well-known game in America.

 

これは、アメリカでよく知られているゲームです。
