Cooking Lessons
After Valentine’s Day, we started a new, fun theme for our Mom & Tots classes: cooking.
バレンタインデーが終わると、mom&totsのクラスでは、新しい楽しいテーマを始めました！それはクッキングです！
Don’t worry we’re not actually cooking real food over a real heated stove. There is no space in our classroom for large cooking equipment, and our main purpose is to teach English, not cooking.
心配しないでください、実際に本物の食べ物を本物のコンロを使って料理をしているわけではありません！教室には、大きなクッキング道具を置くスペースなんてありません！そして、主な目的は英語を教えることで、料理を教えることではありません！
We use plastic toy foods, felt sausages and felt hotcakes and pretend to cook them in a real frying pan. The children learn the names of various foods as well as the names of equipment like frying pan and spatula.
プラスチックのおもちゃの食べ物やフェルト生地で作ったソーセージを使い、本物のフライパンで料理をしているふりをしています！子どもたちは、フライパンやフライ返しなどの料理道具の名前の他にも、いろいろな食べ物の名前を学習しています。
This is also a good way for the kids to learn about numbers and counting. We ask them, “How many sausages are in the pan?” or “How many hotcakes do you have?” Then, we help them count each item.
これは、数や数をかぞえるのにもとてもいい方法です。“フライパンの中にはいくつソーセージがありますか？”“ホットケーキを何枚持っていますか？”など尋ねて、子どもたちがそれぞれのアイテムを数えていくのをヘルプしています。
Some other useful vocabulary that comes out of these lessons are: flip (flip the hotcake), in (put the sausage in the pan) and hungry (I’m hungry).
これらの授業から出てくる役立つ語彙は、flip：ひっくり返る（ホットケーキをひっくり返す）、in：～の中に(パンの中にソーセージを入れる)、そしてhungry：空腹の(お腹がすいた。)です。
The children really enjoy the “Ten Fat Sausages” song, which talks about sausages flying out of a frying pan. At the beginning of the song, there are ten sausages in the frying pan, but two sausages pop out of the pan at a time. It goes from ten sausages to eight to six and so on until there are none left. This way, they learn to count forward and backwards.
子ども達は“Ten Fat Sausages”: (ソーセージがフライパンから飛んでいく歌)を本当に楽しんでいます。歌の始めでは、フライパンの中には10個のソーセージがあります。が、２つのソーセージがパンから飛び出していきます。10個から8個、6個そして最後には何もなくなります。このやり方で、数をかぞえたり、逆から数えたりするのを学習しています。
Our students love to try to catch the sausages when we toss them from the frying pan. At the end of the song, we have each student count how many sausages they collected.
生徒たちは、先生たちがフライパンからソーセージを軽くポイっと投げるとき、それをつかまえようとするのが大好きです。歌の最後に、それぞれの生徒にソーセージがいくつかを数えてもらっています。
Of course, we wouldn’t recommend doing this song and activity with real, cooked sausages.
もちろん、本物の調理済みのソーセージで、この歌をうたって実際にやってみるのはお勧めしません！
