Team Playday English

Other than learning English at Playday every week, many of our students play a sport like baseball, soccer or swimming.

 

プレイデイで、毎週英語を学習する以外にも、生徒さんは野球、サッカーや水泳といったスポーツをしています。

 

In sports, team members practice regularly so they can do their sport better. Baseball players practice running, batting, catching and throwing. If they don’t practice, they will not play well in games against other teams. Swimmers practice swimming so they can become faster and build up their endurance to win races.

 

スポーツでは、チームのメンバーは規則的に練習をし、そうすることでよりよいスポーツができます。野球選手はランニングやバッティング、ボールを捕ったり、投げたりの練習をします。もし、練習をしなければ、他のチームと対戦する時に、ゲームでいいプレイができません。水泳選手は、より速く、そして持久力を伸ばしレースに勝つために泳ぎの練習をします。

 

The same can be said about the way Playday conducts its English classes. Our teachers are the coaches who want to help their students improve their English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. They use songs, games, stories, conversations and homework as English practice.

 

プレイデイが英語の授業を行う方法でも同じことが言えます。先生は、生徒たちの英語のリーディング、ライティング、リスニング、スピーキングのスキルを向上させたいコーチです。生徒たちは、歌やゲーム、ストーリー、会話や宿題を英語の練習として使います。

 

But, if students don’t participate and don’t do their homework, they cannot expect to improve their English. How does a soccer player score a goal in a game without practicing?

 

でも、もし生徒さんたちが練習をせず、宿題をしなければ、英語は上達しません。サッカー選手は練習無しでどうやって試合でゴールを決めますか？

 

There is a common saying that “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link,” which applies to the team mentality we have at Playday. Each Playday class is like its own team. The team can only get better if all the members participate and practice together. Even the teachers and staff at Playday work as a team to keep the school operating smoothly six days a week.

 

“鎖の強度は、その一番弱いつなぎめで決まる。”と言うことわざがあります。これはプレイデイでのチーム精神にも当てはまります。それぞれのプレイデイのクラスも自分のチームのようなものです。チームは、メンバー全員が参加し、一緒に練習をしなければよくはなりません。プレイデイの先生やスタッフも、週６日スクールをスムーズに運営し続けるためにチーム一丸となって働いています。

 

We hope our students have a positive attitude toward learning English and hope they encourage each other to try their best. A baseball player doesn’t get a home run every time he goes up to bat, and we don’t expect our students to get every answer right all the time. We just want to see that they are making an effort and not giving up.

 

私たちは、生徒たちが英語を学ぶことにたいし積極的な態度で、そしてお互いに全力を尽くすよう促していければと思っています。野球選手はバットをふる度にホームランは打ちません、そして私たちは生徒たちから毎回いつも正しい答えが出てくるとは予想していません。私たちはただ生徒たちがあきらめずに努力しているのが見たいだけなのです。

 

Encouragement can come from anyone and not just from the people in the classroom. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, teachers, friends – may we all be supporters in the growth and education of our children and students.

 

励みはクラスの人たちからだけではなく、誰からでもうけます。両親、祖父母、兄弟、姉妹、先生、友達、私たちみんな子ども達や生徒たちの成長や教育においてサポーターになりえますね。
